The author was born in England in nineteen sixty five. She spent her formative years in Freetown, Sierra Leone. In nineteen eighty six, at the age of twenty, she returned to London after completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and French.

At twenty five, she wrote her first book Prejudice: Myth or Reality subtitled The Power of Love.

In response to the advice of a literary agent who told her to spend time grounding her hypothesis in real life, she studied psychology and journalism. She went on to work as a freelance reporter and staff researcher for the BBC, before dedicating the subsequent years to testing her hypothesis in projects with young people, schools and government. She was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 2005 for this work.
